Thanks to another homeschooler, Carol, we've had the chance to participate in Mystery Class. It is hosted by Journey North who studies wild life migration and seasonal changes. Based on our findings we can see that Barrie is getting 20 minutes more daylight each week. We had 2 locations that have all night and all light, so we got talking about hemispheres. We made a model today showing how the earth travels around the sun and its various positions impacting the daylight on the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
So our model has 2 earths but we were trying to show what summer looks like and the axis for what winter will look like :) Thank goodness Randy was home, I too learned something today!
Here is a picture of us tracking the sun today as well:
We had about 3 hours between the 3rd line and the 4th. He was surprised at the direction of travel and enjoyed predicting where it would be when we checked next.
