This Week

We've been pretty busy this week with a couple new activities starting.

Art class was one of those things. The boy called it the torture chamber when we drove by, that kind of tickled me LOL They did well though, prints were on the agenda this week. They did their drawings on a piece of glass and then wet the paper, pressed and voila the picture transposed. The boy said it wasn't as torturous as he thought it would be LOL Little Miss loved it but I'm not too surprised by that.

They also started swimming in the afternoons once a week which is always fun! Big group this term :)

Little Miss also started another lap book on Fall. She seems to do well with these little units! Thank goodness LOL

Some pictures....

Tree climbing. She actually went to get herself a helmet BEFORE she started, sooooo not like her brother LOL

Little Miss had her 6th birthday this weekend although it is actually next weekend. Her brother will be with his dad so we didn't want to have a celebration without everyone present and accounted for!

Visiting and Holding Pigeons :)

My dad has been a very successful Racing Pigeon Flyer for as long as I can remember. I was taught at a pretty young age how to hold a bird, the basics on their homing ability, how the race times are calculated for people all over the province flying the same race and I learned it all by just being around my parents doing what they enjoyed.

I am happy that my children get to benefit from my dads passion as I did. They get to be around his birds, handle them, understand their physiology, see their life cycle... first hand.

Many people don't appreciate these birds as they are in unfortunate abundance in many cities. These birds have such an amazing gift though, the ability to return to their place of origin from hundreds of miles away. They can be plopped in any spot and figure out the way home... very cool!

So here are a few pictures of the children with Grandad, Grandads better half Marion and the pigeons! We had a really great visit :)

Us with Grandad and the boy holding a pigeon :)

Grandad, Marion and the kiddos! Little Missy's turn :)

Showing her the pigeons tongue LOL She was surprised it had one and that we could open up it's beak to have a gander :)

Pet, pet pet! The kiddos thought it was funny that I could cuddle the bird and put my face on it, guess they thought it may peck me or something LOL

In the coop, each with a bird in hand :)

Family BBQ at the Outlaws :)

We all went to the Washago and had a fantastic family BBQ. Rands parents live on a river so we always have a great time boating and fishing.

We all get so busy it was nice to visit with those we don't get to see too often!

Gifts from Friends

Our homeschool friends gifted us with a few experiment kits that they were no longer using. These were in our homeschooling closet and the children found them and took it upon themselves to investigate. One was a sound kit and the other was a seed growing experiment kit.

These were a lot of fun and both children really enjoyed them! Thanks Carol :)

Jumping salt, this one they did A LOT!

Hello... you there??

Using lettuce seeds. She needed to see which pot would grow better, water or no water :) We are pleased to report the lettuce seeds with water sprouted very quickly. Her hypothesis was correct! She was also impressed that they would sprout on a wet cotton ball!

The Release...

After lovingly tending to our Monarchs the big release happened last week :) We were all excited to see the butterfly fly off, such a neat experience to watch the life cycle of this very cool creature!
