Geography Week!

So we started back to school last week after a pretty great summer! I rotate History, Geography and Science on a weekly schedule along with our other core subjects. Last week was history, we did a bit of catch up on that front as we didn't quite finish up the entire program (LOTS IN IT!!)

I am finding that my initial thoughts of schooling Little Miss have changed considerably and I am in change up mode :) One of those changes is not to do a History/Geography program with her yet. Too young! So I am changing up and going the way of the Lap Book!

This week is Geography and am doing Trail Guide Around the World with Mr. Monkey. So far a good program. I am doing a Lap Book Project with Little Miss from Hands of a Child called Tell Me About Planet Earth. She has liked all the little books so far :) I will also add additional activities as we good. Like today we made the WORLD!!! LOL Messy fun! We'll poke an axis through those once they are painted and dry :)

Monarchs!!

Our good friend Carol gave us 2 Monarch Eggs to hatch at home. Sadly I squished one of the little caterpillars with my thumb, Doh! We did find another one though in our journey for milkweed. So these little things ate and pooped and grew like nobodies business! So much fun to see the life cycle and at a speed the children could really appreciate! We saw one of them actually transform from the 'J' formation into a chrysalis, pretty amazing! A few pictures:

Back to the Books!

We started back to school this week. Little Miss was quite the eager beaver and enjoying things, the boy... well... he'll get there LOL

August Happenings

Well much like every other family out there we've been busy!! Here are some pictures of our last few weeks of fun :)

Cottage Week

We had such a wonderful week at the cottage! It was ourselves and the children up there and we were all able to reconnect and relax. We had a couple visits from family throughout the week which was a lot of fun :)

This concludes our plans for the summer. The month of August will be a slower pace with lots of curriculum planning ahead. Here are some pictures of our vacation:

Little Lake Explorations

We went with some friends to Little Lake and did some snooping around. I've not been out to the area before and it was really a great area to explore. A few things we figured out pretty quickly were to:

1. Bring the darn bug spray
2. Bring rubber boots
3. Bring the darn bug spray

So with those things in mind we will definitely be heading back there again soon :)
